How do I check my Internet speed?
You can check your Internet speed online by typing ‘speed test’ in your search engine and using one of the links available. Peak periods with your carrier may be slower than your expected Internet speed, or there may be maintenance on your Internet service that limits what sites you can load.
Before contacting your Internet carrier, you may wish to check your router or modem that you are using to connect with. If your connection is wireless, make sure you have a good signal and your computer or laptop is connecting correctly.
If your Internet connection is through a router, you can ‘power cycle’ your router to help ensure your connection is stable. This is simply turning it off, leaving it for 15-30 minutes, then turning it on again. This will allow your router to start over and re-establish a connection to the Internet, hopefully without re-encountering the problem that was stopping the connection from working initially. You may need to do this twice if it does not work the first time.
